Food industry has a significant place in Turkish economy, with the jobs created in the sector as well as the production level and export performance of the sector. Food industry sector has a great potential with technological and industrial experience to improve its past economic performance. While the shortcomings caused by misimplementation of legislation and structural characteristics of food establishments as well as lack of knowledge and financial weaknesses of food producers are prevailing, lack of sufficient information on markets impede a more competitive food industry.
Globalization causes a massive competitive environment in the world. The food sectors of different countries are not at the same level of competition. International competitiveness of Turkish food companies has to be raised considering appropriate quality and price, safe production, proactive reactions and logistics. In this framework, Food Engineers play a great role in creating new food products working in R&D institutes, controlling the food process, improving food safety and quality conditions, developing the food legislation and exercising official food control services as well as planning the future of food in many senses.
As the only official representative body of food engineers, Chamber of Food Engineers (CFE) was established in May 1996 at the 34th General Assembly of Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (UCTEA) as the 23rd chamber. CFE works according to the Main Regulation of CFE published in the Official Gazette in 2006. The mission of CFE is; to satisfy legally the common needs of members, to represent and introduce food engineering profession, working on educational needs, ethics and food policies etc. in the defined legal frame. By 2022, in 44 universities food engineering departments exist and number of graduates are close to 40,000. Nearly 25,000 of those graduates are member of CFE.
CFE has a principle to both inform the society and produce information referring scientific knowledge, and independent and objective studies. CFE also give importance to sharing knowledge and experiences with other stakeholders, in addition to food engineers.
CFE has been working on food and food related issues since 25 years and will carry on. We call all of our members to participate in the CFE activities with their efforts.
